Thank you for registering your interest in nominating pupils for Maths Camps 2026.

Below is the key information and frequently asked questions relating to the summer 2026 Maths Camps programme at Leeds Mathematics School (LMaS).

If your question isn’t covered here, please don’t hesitate to contact us by emailing: maths.camps@future-foundations.co.uk.

1. Key Information

Axiom Maths Mentors have told us that LMaS is the most suitable venue for pupils at their school. If this changes, please email maths.camps@future-foundations.co.uk.

By Friday 27 March 2026, mentors need to submit nominations here.

By Thursday 30 April 2026 (at the latest), we will

  • email mentors to confirm the initial camp allocation for pupils, and
  • email parents and carers to offer their child a place at a specific maths camp. Offers are accepted when parents and carers complete a consent form online (a link will be shared in the email). Parents and carers will receive detailed information about the camps when the offer is made. Mentors will be copied on this email.

Each school is expected to receive two places per year group, but a nomination does not guarantee a place. Spaces are limited, so please don’t delay.

Venue and catering

Address: Leeds Mathematics School, 105 Albion Street, Leeds LS1 5AS

Dates: Wed 22 July to Fri 24 July from 8.30am to 5pm

Food and refreshments are provided on-site at no cost to the pupil or their family.

When a pupil is offered a place, parents and carers will be asked to provide specific details on dietary requirements and any allergies

Staffing and supervision

These camps, organised by Purposeful Ventures and Axiom Maths, will be managed by Leeds Mathematics School (LMaS) which is a member of the The GORSE Academies Trust (GORSE).

Safeguarding is our number one priority: all staff will have an Enhanced DBS check.  A Designated Safeguarding Officer and first aiders will always be on site. LMaS will be the main point of contact for pupils and parents and carers with a dedicated emergency contact number shared in advance. Click here to read the LMaS Safeguarding policy.

Academic staff will have relevant mathematical backgrounds and be a combination of current Axiom Maths Mentors, experienced maths teachers and degree-level mathematicians. Mentors are not expected to attend the camps, but if they wish to apply for one of the roles on the camp, we encourage applications here.

Parents and carers will also be asked to provide information relating to any additional needs (dietary, medical, other) for their child. The Maths Camp team will review consent forms and any additional information shared, contacting parents and carers for further information where needed.

Travel arrangements

We are unable to arrange individual transport for pupils. We need mentors to support parents and carers to plan their child’s travel to and from the camps.

  • Role of parents and carers: to plan and arrange travel to and from the camp
  • Role of mentors: to support parents and carers to arrange pupil travel, including coordinating so pupils from the same school can travel together
  • Our support: to introduce schools near each other to help coordinate shared travel arrangements if desired

A limited number of travel bursaries to cover the cost of local public travel are available to ensure that no child misses out on attending a maths camp due to financial barriers. As bursaries are limited, we ask mentors to work with parents and carers to coordinate travel plans and identify low-cost solutions for pupils to travel to-and-from the camp.

2. Select your pupils

For the camp at LMaS, we ask Axiom Maths Mentors to select up to three Axiom Maths circle pupils from Year 7 and three from Year 8. Mentors should prioritise those who will benefit most, based on the following criteria: pupils who

  • Are currently in Year 7 or Year 8 only
  • Show potential to study maths at university (example problem set here)
  • Are committed to, and actively participate in, their Axiom Maths circle
  • Would be excited to spend a few focused days with maths ideas and problems and like-minded peers

Of the pupils who match these criteria we ask that mentors prioritise pupils who would not normally access such activities such as pupils eligible for Pupil Premium. We want to ensure pupils can attend regardless of background.

If there are any special circumstances regarding the nominations, there will be an opportunity to share this in the nomination form.

3. Consult the Parents and Carers of selected pupils

We have provided a template email here for mentors to use when talking to parents and carers of the pupils they wish to nominate – explaining about Maths Camps and the plan for this summer.

Mentors should have this conversation and obtain consent to nominate the child, before completing an online nomination.

4. Complete Nomination form for each child by Friday 27 March 2026

Mentors need to complete the form once for each pupil here by Friday 27 March 2026.

Mentors will be asked to provide the following information

  • Mentor’s name, email and phone number
  • Name of your school
  • Name and sex of pupil
  • Nomination priority (3rd choices are added to the waiting list)
  • Current year group of pupil (Year 7, Year 8)
  • Is pupil eligible for Pupil Premium (Yes / No)
  • Name and email of parents and carers
  • Any further information on this pupil to share at the nomination stage

Mentors will receive email confirmation of the nomination. If anything changes, please email maths.camps@future-foundations.co.uk.

After nomination closes, we will allocate pupils to the camps (aiming to meet all venue preferences) and no later than Thursday 30 April 2026 we will make offers to parents and carers via email (with mentors in copy).

Parents and carers will need to complete an online parent consent form by the deadline date in their offer email.  In this form they will be able to provide additional needs (dietary, medical, other) relevant to their child.

The consent form will be managed by Future Foundations on behalf of LMaS. All subsequent communications with parents and carers will be handled by LMaS.

We will keep schools informed when offers are sent out and forms are completed by families. We expect to ask mentors to chase parents and carers who do not complete the form before the deadline date in their offer email.

FAQs

The deadline for schools to submit nominations is midnight Friday 27 March 2026.

Please find below our FAQs. If you have a question that is not answered, please email: maths.camps@future-foundations.co.uk.

What details are required from schools to nominate pupils, and how will selections be made?

We invite each school to nominate two current Year 7 or Year 8 pupils, along with one additional pupil for our waiting list (three pupils in total from each year group).

Using our nomination form, you will provide the following details for each student:

  • Pupil’s full name, year group and sex
  • Preference order for your nominations
  • Full name of parent or carer
  • Email of parent or carer

An individual school is expected, subject to demand, to receive two places per year group, but a nomination does not guarantee a place. Spaces are limited, and initial allocations will be confirmed no later than Thursday 30 April 2026.

We aim to meet venue preferences but may have to allocate pupils based on demand.

We aim to keep pupils from the same school together at the same camp unless agreed otherwise.

What are the next steps?

  • Nominate pupils by Friday 27th March 2026
Schools that register interest will receive an invitation (via email) to submit pupil nominations via our nomination form. We will provide a template to use to inform parents and carers of your intention to nominate their child.
  • Review of nominations
We will review nominations and allocate places and venues. The final selection of pupils will be confirmed and shared with all participating schools.
  • Offers sent out by Thursday 30 April 2026
For pupils offered a place, we will contact parents and carers directly via email (with the school in copy) to confirm participation and provide further details. This will include a link to an online parent consent form and a deadline to accept the offer.
  • Wait list pupils
Pupils not initially offered a place will be added to our waiting list. We will inform parents and carers via email (with the school in copy).

Who will be responsible for safeguarding and pastoral care at the camp?

Safeguarding and pastoral care will be managed by the LMaS team at the school under the supervision of LMaS Principal Robert Wilne. LMaS will lead on safeguarding and manage pupil support throughout the camp, liaising with parents and carers following Axiom Maths’ nominations through to the end of the camp.

There will be a named Designated Safeguarding Officer and an emergency contact number for parents and carers to be able to contact their child.

Click here to read the LMaS Safeguarding policy.

What is included in the fully-funded camp?

We want to ensure no pupil misses out on attending a maths camp due to financial barriers.

Meals and camp materials (such as notebooks, pens, and other necessary resources) are covered at no cost to participants. Pupils will not need to bring spending money.

Detailed information will be shared with parents and carers closer to the camp date to help with preparation and to highlight personal items pupils will need to bring.

How will pupil travel be organised?

We are unable to arrange individual transport for pupils. We need mentors to help parents and carers to plan their child’s travel to and from the camps.

  • Role of parents and carers: to plan and arrange travel to and from the camp
  • Role of mentor: to help parents and carers to arrange pupil travel, including – if needed – to help coordinate so pupils from the same school can travel together
  • Our support:
    • Introduce schools near each other to help coordinate shared travel arrangements if desired
    • Travel bursaries: to help pupils who would otherwise be unable to afford to attend a maths camp. We ask mentors to work with parents and carers to coordinate travel plans and identify low-cost solutions for pupils to travel to-and-from the camp. See below FAQ Will pupil travel cost be covered?

Will pupil travel costs be covered?

These camps are fully-funded except for travel costs.

A travel bursary is available to ensure that no child misses out on attending a maths camp due to financial barriers.

As bursaries are limited, we ask mentors to work with parents and carers to coordinate travel plans and identify low-cost solutions for pupils to travel to-and-from the camp.

Mentors will be able to apply for a bursary on behalf of parents and carers where travel costs would otherwise prevent a pupil from attending a Maths Camp.

Are mentors required to attend the camp with pupils?

No, mentors do not need to attend. However, your support is needed in the lead-up to the camp to help with coordinating pupil participation, securing consent, coordinating travel and ensuring pupils feel prepared and confident about attending.

LMaS will handle all aspects of the camp itself including programme delivery and pastoral care. LMaS will liaise directly with parents and carers prior to the programme and answer any questions they may have.

Future Foundations is looking for teachers to join us in a paid role at the residential maths camps. This is a great opportunity to work with talented pupils, meet like-minded educators, and be part of an inspiring learning environment. Available roles will be published here on the Future Foundations website and we will share with all nominating teachers who have expressed interest in roles.

What if my school does not have an Axiom Maths circle?

For 2026, we are only accepting nominations from schools currently in the Axiom Maths programme.

If you would like to start an Axiom Maths circle, please contact Axiom Maths directly here.

What if I want to nominate a pupil who is not part of my school’s maths circle?

For 2026, we won’t be able to accept nominations from pupils not currently active in an Axiom Maths circle.

Can I choose which venue to nominate my pupils for?

When you register your school’s interest, you can select the preferred location for your school and pupils. We will try to meet all preferences but may have to allocate pupils to camps based on demand. We will keep children from the same school together at the same camp unless agreed otherwise.
