On the 23rd of May 2019, Future Foundations made it’s way up to Bishop’s Stortford College in Hertfordshire, to deliver a ‘Leadership Day‘ to around 122 Year 12 students. Future Foundations has run this programme for the last two years at the school, and it has always been a great success!
The primary aim of the day is to encourage students to take personal responsibility for their own learning, take academic and personal opportunities, and highlight the benefits of doing so.
The programme was Course Directed by Owen, who was Operationally Assisted by Emily, and supported by eight of our wonderful Future Foundations facilitators; Amrit, Maya, Jennifer, Terence, Seven, Colin, Shane and Nadia.
Bishop’s Stortford College is one of the top 20 independent co-educational schools in the UK.
Every pupil is encouraged, taught and challenged to achieve his or her best across a broad curriculum. Recent achievements at A-level have ranked Bishop’s Stortford College as a top 10 co-educational boarding school and amongst the top 100 independent schools in the UK.
Though academic study is their priority, the school also offer students the opportunity to get involved in numerous extra curricular activities, including music, art, drama and sport, to name a few.
Linda Dickinson, Head of Sixth Form, worked closely with Future Foundations in the run up to the programme, to ensure the sessions were tailored to the students and schools needs.
The day began with an opening plenary entitled ‘Living Leadership,’ that was delivered by Owen. Addressed to the whole year group, the plenary explored everyone’s role and responsibility to be a leader within their school, community and society.
Once over, the students were split into eight groups and allocated a Future Foundations coach. Five workshops were conducted throughout the day, each one covering a different area of the topic ‘leadership,’ and also focusing on 4 special topic areas which included ‘Create Entrepreneurship,’ ‘Risk Taking,’ ‘Personality Types,’ and the ‘Big Debate.’
By the end of the day, students were enthused about their future, had learned to be pro-active about their own personal development, and had set themselves personal leadership tasks in the ‘30 Day Challenge.‘
”Future Foundations are a very enabling organisation who listen to your needs. All the coaches were very enthusiastic and were very keen to impart their knowledge to the students.
