Overview
- Your role will be to support the smooth running of the Maths Camp and help students feel welcome, safe and inspired throughout their camp experience.
- When? The camp will run from Tuesday 26th to Thursday 28th August
- Who is attending? Year 7 & 8 pupils who participate in Axiom Maths Circles. All participants have been nominated by their teachers.
- Where? Churchill College, Cambridge
Remuneration:
- £293 (total). Further details are included below.
- Accommodation and Meals will be provided.
- If travel is a barrier to participation, agreed-upon in advance costs can be reimbursed.
Please Note:
- This role is designed for Churchill College students only
- All applicants will be invited to attend a short virtual interview or an in-person interview at Churchill College, Cambridge, this will be with Future Foundations and will be an opportunity for you to ask any questions about the role
- Successful candidates must have a valid DBS – Churchill College will arrange this if you do not already have one
- You must provide references as part of the onboarding process
- A pre-camp briefing will be arranged and may take place online or in person at Churchill College, Cambridge – this will be confirmed with successful applicants

About the Programme
Introduction to our Maths Camps
We are delighted to be offering a fully-funded Maths Camp this summer, hosted by Churchill College. The camp is for students in years 7, 8. It is targeted at students who have been nominated for being the top mathematicians in their year group, who have a strong enthusiasm and strong aptitude for mathematics.
Our team, including individuals from Purposeful Ventures, Axiom Maths, Future Foundations is working hard preparing for the camps.
Overview of Role:
Churchill College and Future Foundations are looking to recruit current Churchill College students to support the Maths Camp team this summer as Operations Assistants and Churchill College Ambassadors.
In this role, you will support the smooth running of the camp and act as a welcoming, positive role model for visiting students from across the country. You will also represent Churchill College, offering insights into the College and the University of Cambridge and helping ensure all participants feel comfortable in their surroundings, can navigate the site confidently and are inspired.
You will help with a wide range of operational and student-facing tasks, including:

Setting up the site before camp begins, including preparing session spaces and activity areas

Supporting maths games and enrichment sessions

Welcoming students (e.g. meeting them at the station or guiding them from registration to the residential area or activity zones)

Escorting groups, helping during meal times, and ensuring smooth transitions between sessions
Depending on your strengths and interests, you may also:

Support with AV or tech

Help within maths sessions if you’re a keen mathematician/studying a Maths or Maths-related degree

Focus on event logistics if you’re interested in learning more about event and programme management

Pre-Camp Preparation:
You will need to read Churchill College Policies and Procedures and complete their due diligence.
You will also need to review the Maths Camps Policies and Procedures, plus complete a safeguarding and health & safety survey.
There will be a pre-camp briefing which will take place either online or at Churchill College.
Please note
For this role, you will be employed by Churchill College. Future Foundations will lead on the selection of the candidates. Churchill College provide you with a contract, payment and will complete a DBS check (if you do not have one in place).

You do not need to be a mathematician to apply, but if you are passionate about maths, we would love to involve you more in the learning experience.
FAQs
- Do I need experience working with young people?
No. This role is ideal for current university students who are confident, approachable and happy supporting a youth programme. We will provide training in partnership with Churchill College to help you feel prepared and you will be oversee and supported in your role by the Maths Camp Operations Director.
- Do I need to be available for the full duration of the camp?
Yes. We ask that Ambassadors be available each day of the camp. The Camp runs from Tuesday to Thursday with a morning start and late afternoon finish each day.
- When will I need to be on site each day?
We expect you to be on site from approximately 9:00 am and stay until approximately 7:00 pm (with an earlier finish on Thursday). There will be scheduled breaks during the day. Full timings and rotas will be confirmed ahead of camp.
- Will meals be provided?
Yes. You’ll have lunch provided on-site each day in the dining hall and breakfast and dinner if you would like to stay onsite.
- Do I need to organise my own travel and accommodation?
Yes. If this would be difficult for you, please let us know in your application or email us ahead of your application to discuss: maths.camps@future-foundations.co.uk. We may be able to offer limited accommodation and reimburse agreed travel costs.
- What kinds of tasks will I be doing?
You will help with things like:

Meeting and greeting students

Escorting groups to sessions and meals

Supporting with setup of maths games and enrichment activities

Helping to set up spaces or assist with logistics

Sharing your experience of Churchill College and Cambridge to help inspired the students
You may also take on additional tasks based on your strengths and interests, for example, supporting AV/tech setup, helping with admin.
If you are studying maths or maths maths-related degree, there may be the opportunity to work more closely with students.
Is this a paid role?
Yes. You’ll be paid for your time, further details are outlined below in Remuneration.
Remuneration
£293.04 total
- 24 hours at £12.21 per hour
- Pre-camp briefing | approximately 2 hours (online or at Churchill College)
- Tuesday to Wednesday – 9:00 to 19:00 | 8 hours per day (including lunch and extended breaks)
- Depending on whether you stay onsite, we will do a rota with selected candidates
- Thursday – 8:45 to 2.45 | 6 hours
Accommodation
If you need accommodation onsite during the camp, we can accommodate you in a block onsite. Please let us know in your application.
Travel
For successful candidates, Churchill College will reimburse pre-agreed travel expenses, in line with their policies.
Meals
- Lunch will be provided as part of the delivery of the event.
- If you are staying onsite, breakfast and dinner will be provided as well.
- You will be asked to submit any dietary needs in advance.
Other Requirements
- Must be eligible to work in the UK.
- Churchill College will lead on Safer Recruitment checks and processing a DBS check if you do not already have one.
