Future Foundations were delighted to be delivering this day to one of the schools in the GSL Society Movement.  The event was delivered to 100 Year 8 students, to launch their careers curriculum, who had a day off timetable to develop their leadership skills and team work, increase their self-confidence and think about the legacy they want to leave behind at their school.

The programme was course directed by Owen with our Future Foundations coaches Amit, Shane, Jason, Bill and John Paul

The objectives of the Big Futures Day were to:

  • Encourage students to take personal responsibility for their futures; to be proactive in their approach to work experience and the future benefits of doing so.
  • Build students confidence in themselves and the interview process, through recognising their own qualities and how to communicate these in a professional manner.
  • Equip students with key interview skills and experience; combining theory with interactive demonstrations and role plays.
  • Introduce students to industry mapping and network building.
  • Help students to identify personal areas for development by connecting exciting future career and life stages to present opportunities.
  • Challenge students to set tangible goals for the future by highlighting the connection between effective planning now and future success.
  • Provide a fun, interactive and motivational boost at any point in the school year.

Future Foundations provided a varied programme delivered across the school site, including experiential team tasks and reflection sessions throughout to relate learning to the objectives of the leadership day. The day was launched with a motivational plenary, delivered by Course Director Owen themed around ‘taking ownership of your future’.

Students then worked through workshops themed around goal setting, understanding your own journey and where you want to be, interview skills and presenting yourself for success.

The programme was facilitated by an experienced team of positive, dynamic staff inspired by the firm belief that all young people are full of capability and possibility and throughout the programme there was an ethos of support, teamwork and cooperation.

This was the first time Future Foundations have delivered training for a whole year group at Turing House it was fantastic to work with a group of such engaged students and school staff. In the final session of the day they were invited to make use of the Future Foundations 30 Day Challenge app, a support tool to help participants to carry forward the energy and good intentions of the programme into their lives and achieve the SMART goals they had challenged themselves to complete over the next month.

I learnt a lot about myself through the activities, this is because I was made to think about myself more than I usually do.

Student

Fun, enjoyable but a great learning experience I feel I learnt a lot about confidence.

Student

It has inspired me to put myself forward and take risks.

A young person was doing an A-Z of her goals in the lifemap exercise.... She couldn't think of something to go with the letter X. She asked for me if I could think of something beginning with 'X', I told her to leave it blank... A life map is great, but sometimes you have to let the 'X' find you.
