WE ARE PROUD TO SHARE OUR IMPACT & LAUNCH OUR NEW MISSION AND VISION

It has been two years since the first lockdown was introduced in the UK.  We have been reflecting on the journey our team has been on, our impact during this time and today we are proud to announce our new vision, mission, and strategy for investing in young people.   

OUR IMPACT 2020-22

GLOBAL SOCIAL LEADERS (GSL)

Global Social Leaders (GSL) is our flagship programme, founded in 2013 in partnership with the Wellington Leadership and Coaching Institute. The aim of GSL is to build a global movement of socially conscious leaders who are equipped to be leaders in their lives and society.

During the last 2 years, we have successfully pivoted most of our GSL delivery to provide high-quality virtual leadership development programmes for young people, which has catalysed change in communities around the world.  We were proud to report live from COP26, we used this incredible opportunity to amplify youth voices, capture unique and inspiring stories, and make a meaningful contribution to one of the world’s most important conferences of all time.

GSL Catalysts

We adapted our GSL Catalyst course to a virtual programme allowing us to support and inspire over 3,000 young people from more than 70 countries to develop their leadership skills, connect with peers and take action on the causes they care about.

We would like to thank our funders and partners: Innovate UK, Rise, Chadwick International School, the Aldridge Foundation and COBIS that made this possible.

GSL Global Goals Competition

We grew the reach of our Global Goals competition to over 100 countries.  Our project teams continued their projects despite school closures and we have been so inspired by how much they have achieved and their impact.  We would like to thank our GSL Global Goals Heros for providing feedback on our young people’s projects.

GSL Festival @ Home

We delivered two virtual festivals (in 2020 and 2021).  Our GSL Festivals @Home were unique, interactive, and filled with inspiration. They celebrated youth voice and gave students and educators the tools to create transformational social change.  Save the date for our next virtual GSL Festival on 17th June 2022!).

PARTNER PROGRAMMES

We provide programme delivery services to organisations that want to invest in the development of young people.

During the last 2 years, we have worked with our partners to pivot our offering and launched a new partnership.  Our programmes have continued to support young people, despite the various challenges posed to schools during the COVID-19 pandemic.

  • We successfully supported over 200 schools (in the UK, Ireland and Germany) to participate in the AWS GetIT Schools Programme, in a way which met their needs – whether virtually or in a hybrid format.  We were able to engage more schools with the new format, increase engagement and the number of learners trained.
  • Having been appointed UK delivery partner for the Dirt is Good Schools Programme in 2020 we have since piloted and then launched this programme. In our first year of delivery, we have more than 700 schools signed up for the programme. We have just launched a new peer-coaching pilot programme as part of our work to increase student leadership of the programme within schools and are now working on an exciting new campaign for Earth Month.
  • We partnered with Bertha Earth to pilot their Changemakers programme (virtual programme), Nature Connect Days and provided consultancy on their programmes.

SCHOOL PROGRAMMES

Prior to the COVID pandemic, we delivered a wide range of in-person programmes for schools.

STRATEGY 2022-25

We have risen to the challenges that COVID-19 has brought us but we want to do more and believe there has never been a more important time to invest in young people.  

The world is facing unprecedented challenges from conflict, climate change and Covid-19 – all of which have an impact on the education and future aspirations for young people – we need to explore how we support, harness and empower young people to solve real-world problems. 

The negative impact of Covid-19 on young people has been and continues to be significant.  This includes adapting to isolation, schools closing, and exams being cancelled. Young people have experienced heightened anxiety, uncertainty and increased risks to mental and emotional wellbeing. Compounding this, they have been unable to volunteer for community initiatives.

A WHO-UNICEF-Lancet commission made it clear early in the Covid-19 pandemic that all stakeholders, from governments to parents, must “ensure the physical and mental impacts of the Covid-19 epidemic on adolescents are kept minimal. Immediate actions are warranted.”

WE HAVE REFINED WHAT WE DO

As part of our shift in direction and focus we have made the decision to no longer deliver one-day programmes and our focus from today is on life-changing high impact programmes.

We will be announcing further updates and partnerships in the coming weeks and months.

GLOBAL EDUCATORS NETWORK

We have launched a new community of committed and dedicated educators, teachers and senior leaders from over 1000 schools (primary and secondary schools) and youth organisations across 100 countries. INVESTING IN OUR TEAM

Our team has been incredible throughout the last two years, going above and beyond to ensure that young people are provided with high-quality learning opportunities which have supported them not just to catch-up or develop their leadership skills but with their wellbeing as well.

As we move forward to deliver our new strategy we are reviewing and transforming our policies for our team to ensure that we are investing in them and supporting their wellbeing. In January we reduced our working week from 40 to 35 hours, formalised flexi-time arrangements, and increased holidays.  We have committed to continuing with a hybrid model of working and are investing in our hybrid working infrastructure (with help from our sister company Future Solutions). We are in the process of reviewing other policies to see where we can further improve our working environment.
