Overview
You will co-lead the camps alongside the Course Director, manage the on-site operations and pastoral teams, liaise with venue and catering staff, and act as the on-site Designated Safeguarding Officer (DSO). Your leadership will help create a safe, welcoming, and inspiring residential experience for young people from across the country.
There is scope for involvement in the pre-programme planning phase in a part-time capacity. If you are interested, please indicate this in your application.
Camp Dates & Locations
We are recruiting for one Operations Director to oversee three residential Maths Camps delivered across two venues.
You will be required to arrive the evening before each camp begins to oversee site setup and team preparation.
Site 1: Christ’s Hospital School, West Sussex

- Camp 1 – Year 9 pupils attending Lift, Ark and our partner schools. All pupils have been nominated by a teacher at their school.

About the Programme
Introduction to our Maths Camps
We are delighted to be offering three fully-funded Maths Camps this summer. Two of the camps (organised in association with Axiom Maths) are for students in years 7 and 8, and the third is for year 9 students. All three are targeted at students who have been nominated for being the top mathematicians in their year group, who have a strong enthusiasm and strong aptitude for mathematics.
Our team, including individuals from Purposeful Ventures, Axiom Maths, Future Foundations and each of the host venues, is working hard preparing for the camps.
We are seeking an experienced and highly organised Operations Director to lead the delivery of our 2025 residential Maths Camps.
Summary of Role
- Lead the on-site operations of three Maths Camps across two inspiring venues
- Act as the Designated Safeguarding Officer (DSO) during each camp
- Co-lead the camp with the Course Director, ensuring all elements run smoothly
- Manage the Operations Team and oversee two Pastoral House Parents
- Liaise with venue staff to manage accommodation, catering, facilities, and logistics
- Option to support pre-programme planning with the Project Manager
Main Responsibilities
Operations Management
- Develop and implement the operations plan for each site
- Coordinate logistics: registration, timetables, rooming, equipment, and guest arrivals
- Lead venue liaison for catering, AV, health and safety, and accommodation
- Ensure staff are well-briefed and in position; escalate issues where needed
- Troubleshoot operational challenges quickly and calmly
- Support collection and collation of participant and staff feedback
Safeguarding & Compliance
- Serve as the on-site Designated Safeguarding Officer (DSO)
- Respond to and manage safeguarding concerns, escalating to the Head Office DSO (on call 24/7) when needed
- Ensure all staff follow safeguarding, behaviour, health and safety, and risk assessment protocols
- Maintain accurate safeguarding records and ensure emergency procedures are followed
Team Leadership
- Line manage the onsite operations team
- Oversee and support two Pastoral House Parents, ensuring joined-up care and communication
- Support the pastoral team with welfare and behaviour issues where necessary
- Liaise professionally with guests, venue staff, and external visitors
- Brief and support Student Mentors (if attending)
Planning & Preparation (Optional – additional work package would be agreed)
If you are available, support the in advance of delivery:
- Create operations plans and logistics briefings
- Pack and prepare programme materials
- Conduct site visits to confirm venue setup and requirements
- Coordinate with venue staff, partners and team members
Pre-Camp Preparation:
Prior to the camp you will be required to join a half-day prep session and read our briefing guide.
Together these will give you an overview of:
- The camp programme and an overview of the site.
- The students you will be supervising, including any needs and requirements.
You will also need to review the Maths Camps Policies and Procedures, plus complete a safeguarding and health & safety survey.
The half-day preparation session will take place at the Purposeful Ventures offices in White City, London, with an option to attend virtually. It will be on either August 12th or 13th, depending on the selected candidate’s availability.

Candidate Specifications
Essential
- Experience leading operations for residential or education programmes
- Minimum 3 years’ experience acting as a Designated Safeguarding Officer (DSO) or in a lead safeguarding role
- Level 3 Safeguarding Children training (or equivalent), completed within the past 2 years
- Strong working knowledge of safeguarding, health and safety, and behaviour management
- Excellent organisational and logistical skills
- Calm, solutions-focused approach under pressure
- Ability to manage and motivate a team
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Experience working with young people from diverse backgrounds
- Confident liaising with professional stakeholders, venues, and guests
Desirable
- Experience delivering Future Foundations programmes
- Familiarity with venue AV/tech setup and troubleshooting
- Experience coordinating or supporting pastoral care teams
- Availability/flexibility to support the planning phase (site visits, preparation)
- First Aid Certificate (or willingness to complete one – training will be funded by Future Foundations but must be done in your own time).
FAQ
- When will I need to be on-site?
You must arrive the evening before each camp begins to support site setup and prepare with the team. Accommodation and meals will be provided from arrival.
Each camp ends at 1:00pm on the final day, followed by debrief and pack-down. You are expected to remain on-site until all duties and will be the last staff member on site who will complete a final check in with the venue staff before departing.
- Do I have responsibilities at night?
Yes. You will stay onsite at both Christ’s Hospital and Churchill College throughout each camp. This enables you to respond promptly to logistical needs and support the wider team effectively.
As the Designated Safeguarding Officer (DSO), you will also be the senior safeguarding lead overnight, working alongside the Pastoral House Parents, who lead on overnight supervision in their houses. While they are the first point of contact for students, you may be called upon to respond to or support safeguarding incidents and liaise with venue staff or emergency services if needed.
- Do I need to be a maths specialist to apply?
No. This role does not require a background in maths or teaching. Your focus will be on operational delivery, logistics, team coordination and safeguarding. You will work closely with the Course Director and Maths Coaches, who are responsible for the academic content of the programme.
- Who do I report safeguarding concerns to?
You will be the Designated Safeguarding Officer (DSO) on-site at all three camps, supported by our Head Office DSO, who is available 24/7 for advice and escalation.
- Can I support with the planning phase?
Yes. There is an opportunity to contribute part-time to the pre-programme planning phase, including site visits, operations prep, and resource planning. Please indicate your interest in your application.
Remuneration
£300 per programme delivery day / £250 a day for pre-programme planning
- 4 days of programme management preparation – mix of planning meetings, preparation and site visits at £250 per day = £1,000
- Half day training = £150
- Site 1 – 5.5 days = £1,650
- Role 2 – 3.5 days = £1,050
- Total = £3,850
Travel
Reasonable travel expenses will be covered to and from the host venue, in line with our travel policy. All travel expenses must be claimed through our Online Expense Claim system. A receipt must be attached in line with our policy.
Meals
- Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner will be provided by each host venue as part of the delivery of the event.
- You will be asked to submit any dietary needs in advance.
