Show your love for the planet this Valentine’s Day and join us to take on The Global Social Leaders 30 Day Plastic Challenge #GSLplasticchallenge.

Inspired by the incredible social action projects being led  by groups of young people around the world as part of our Global Social Leaders Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Competition the Future Foundations team have decided to get involved and help support the United Nations Global Goal Campaign.

For the next 30 days we are challenging ourselves to consume responsibly, reducing our plastic waste dramatically, and we want as many of you to join us on our journey!

In September 2015, world leaders agreed to 17 Global Goals for Sustainable Development. If these Goals are completed, it would mean an end to extreme poverty, inequality and climate change by 2030.

Future Foundations challenges  young people to THINK GLOBAL and ACT LOCAL, examining the issues behind the  Goals and understanding the part they can play by joining the biggest attempt in the history of the human race to make the world a better place.

Global goal 12 is to ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns for the world and by 2030, substantially reduce waste generation through prevention, reduction, recycling and reuse. This is the goal the Future Foundations team will be giving our support to through the GSL Plastic Challenge.

"I have a friend in my home town who started a #2minutebeachclean and every time she walks her dogs she collects rubbish. I follow her on Instagram, and it astounded me just how much plastic she was collecting, especially plastic bottles and caps from coffees. It made me painfully aware about all the unnecessary plastic I accumulate just by not preparing myself better for the day. She showed me that a little effort can have a big impact. So, I decided that one of the easiest ways to reduce my use of plastic was to carry a reuseable water bottle and to use my coffee keepy cup!"

Did you know a plastic bottle takes 450 years to break down completely.

Here are some ideas of how to reduce your use of plastic:

  1. Carry a reusable water bottle and do not buy plastic bottles
  2. Use a keepy cup and do not buy that hot take away beverage without one
  3. Buy loose fruit and vegetables and avoid packaged ones
  4. Stop using plastic bags

Setting intentions are vital to changing behaviors, as is support! So join us and commit to reduce you use of plastic by clicking on the button above. You will receive updates and words of encouragement to keep you on track!

Share with us your reusable cup snaps and tell us how you are doing by using the #GSLplasticchallenge and tagging us
