AWS Get IT Summit 2019

All you need to know…

We can’t wait to welcome you to the AWS Get IT student track at the AWS London Summit! Please see below for all the details you need to know, including downloadable safeguarding and health and safety documents that you might need for your trip.

AWS Global Summits are free yearly events that bring the cloud computing community together to connect, collaborate, and learn about AWS. Click here to find out more. The Get IT programme is lucky enough to make up the student track of this event. The event as a whole is huge – 12,000 people so please do stay vigilant and with your students at all times.

  • DATE: Wednesday the 8th May
  • TIME: 10am – 4pm

There will be two parts to the student track:

The 10 teams in the final:

  • Prep time for the presentations
  • Two groups of five teams present to two panels
  • Winning team from each group of five then presents in a Grand Final, so there will be two teams in the final
  • Winner of the competition announced!

The remaining school teams:

  • AWS Summit Student track – a series of workshops and sessions (this is run by AWS and we will have more information about this nearer the event)
  • Audience for the Grand Final
  • Winner of the competition announced!

We hope to have more detailed information nearer the time of the event.

HEALTH AND SAFETY INFORMATION:

  • Fire procedure please see emergency procedures
  • Risk assessment for site and/or for the event – the events team specialist H&S, manager for the event, will be preparing this and it is expected by the end of March, which I will then share.
  • Details of the bathrooms – toilets are available on each floor of the venue and clearly signed. Unfortunately as they are shared for the whole event, they will not be allocated just for students, so please make sure you always accompany your students.
  • Security at the event – security is being covered by the US Amazon Protective Services with subcontractors onsite, who cover each entry and exit point. Each attendee will go through a screening when they arrive and have to register with a badge in order to gain access. There are appropriate security arrangements to prevent unauthorised persons entering the event.
  • First aid provision – this is covered by security personnel, but there will also be FF staff present who are first aid trained.

Please email lucy.moses@future-foundations.co.uk with any questions.

What to bring…

  • Lunch will be provided by Excel and as long as we have the information in advance, your dietary requirements can be accommodated e.g. gluten free, diary free, vegetarian etc. However, if your young person has a severe allergy, please provide a packed lunch to take away any risk.
  • Feel free to pack snacks as it will be a jammed packed day, so lots of energy will be needed!
  • A water bottle
  • Notebook and pen
  • The students should wear their school uniform.

Finalist teams:

  • If one of your teams is in the final, please make sure they bring their presentation on a USB stick.

I along with my colleagues from Amazon Web Services want to visit your school, meet your students and inspire and educate them about their future career pathways. We are passionate about filling the digital skills gap in the UK and improving communication and education around diversity within the technology industry.
