Between Thursday 25th and Friday 28th August 150 young people in Years 10 and 12 attended Future Foundation and Highgate School’s annual Chrysalis Summer School.

Now into it’s sixth year the Chrysalis Summer School is an ambitious project to bring a university access scheme to gifted and talented cohorts from across North London.  Pupils are invited to engage in a programme of dedicated activities, the centrepiece of which is an intensive 3 day Summer School delivered by Future Foundations.

Participants were drawn from The Chrysalis Partnership of 26 schools from across the boroughs of Haringey, Camden, Ealing, Newham and Barnet following a rigorous application process.

The programme was delivered by an experienced team of Future Foundations facilitators, Highgate staff, tutors and selected alumni for the 2014 Summer School.
The Course Directors were James Canvin and Tom Hogarth and the Future Foundations coaches were Laurence Greiner, Patrick Hearn, Jennifer Edge, Aamna Ali and Mark Corbett. Our tutors were Celine Henry, Sarah Evans, Valerie Longe, Eloise Libbert, Sochima Ikpa, Lois Uduje and Catrin Prior. The delivery team were supported by an exceptional Ops Team Sarah Militello and Miriam Idrissi.

The aims of the Year 12 Summer School were to stretch students academically through subject-specific tutorials, delivered by knowlegable and inspiring teaching staff and encourage them to consider their future and particularly their (potential) university application and potnetial careers. Through the two date programme we broadened their experience and exposure to challenges to help them understand how use the rest of 6th form constructively to be a more appealing university candidate.

The aims of the Year 10 Summer School were to engage and stretch students academically in smaller groups that they may normally be used to. We challenged them to consider how they can be proactive in their remaining years and school and how 6th form and further education could help them reach their goals.

Project Manager

“I’m delighted to say that my sixth year working on the Chrysalis Summer School has been just as enjoyable as the first. Feedback from the students has been fantastic, with many saying that the programme went over and above their expectations. It was incredible to see how much the students progressed in such a short space of time. I’m sure we will see many of our Year 12 students back next year as Chrysalis Ambassadors!”

Excellent experience, highlight of the summer, would recommend to literally everyone.

An amazing experience that allows you to learn about where you want to go and how to get there

Antonia Chantelle Rebelo Da Costa, Year 10

The tutorials were incredible. They have further strengthened my decision to study hard in chemistry and pursue a career.

Student, Year 12

It was a very enjoyable yet informative experience which helped me to prepare well for the UCAS process and University interviews. I especially enjoyed meeting so many interested, like-minded students my age.
